If one were to ask me on a normal day, what my favorite class is, I wouldn’t usually say English. This however is not a normal day. This month, my English teacher gave us an independent study assignment, meaning we get to do whatever project we like as long as it fills some basic requirements for a typical English class. The project I’ve decided on I one that I’ve been hoping to get the chance to for awhile. I’m gonna make a podcast. Yup, I’m finally getting around to it. Last November I nearly finished my first novel, and now this May I’m going to write half of a podcast novel. I only have 15 days to do it and just a few minimum requirements to meet. I need to read 15 pages a day, and write 2 pages a day. At the end of the month I’m supposed to turn in writing compendium that will include a cover sheet, table of contents, and a bibliography and includes books I’ve read along with vocabulary I’ve learned.
The plan is to listen to several podcast novels to count as my 400 pages of reading, I finally have solid reason to listen to Morevi, I just need figure out if I want to
read listen to Morevi or Morevi Remastered. Ah, the difficult decisions I need to make this month.
The writing requirement is 2 pages a day, but I’m imposing a 1667 word goal instead. Hopefully it should amount to roughly 40 pages when I’m done. Goes to do count the pages from NaNoWriMo Novel. Ah, I should get about 70 pages so I guess I’m overachieving. In June I’ll have enough content for 5 podcast episodes.
I don’t know if I’m being unrealistic but I also planned to record the podcasts in the same month. It’s definitely going to be a busy month in this class, especially since I’ll need to make edits to the episodes as a write them. The idea is that I will be writing them in a serial format that unfolds like a radio drama or television. I’ll have an outline of what the story will be like but it won’t be finished by the time the month ends, hence the title Half a novel in 15 days.
As part of the assignment every Monday I will write a post summarizing how the project is going and what I’ve learned. This blog is currently serving as the way I will be evaluated on this project until it is all turned in. Although I haven’t decided yet, I hope to post short excerpts or side stories if the mood strikes me.
I would talk more about what it is that I’m actually writing for this project but I don’t have much to share for today and I’m already running on writer-ly fumes so that will be the next post for this week. For now, I’ve got to name this podcast project.
